Carnaval – Big Fish

Carnaval – Big Fish
Self released – 2016
Rock, Stoner
Rated: *****

So, in about two weeks time the wonderful Carnaval cats will release the follow-up album to the majestic Tennis, Football, Basketball album from 2012. An album we still spin religiously, as we do with the one that came before called 2. Their languid vocals and majestic grooves are right there on the top shelve on both of those albums. So before the day arrives that we can enjoy Miss Universe, as the new record is called, we can still listen to that four track EP that came out a few months ago. Or the Rocket single available on the KAPA Records page, which means said record company will release the new album? But let’s go back to Big Fish for a moment, cause those four tracks are once again pure freaking gold. Starting with Born In The River, a fairly trucking and high speed driving stoner track and ending with Burning Sun which is much slower and grandiose in all gestures. With superb stomping drums and excellent guitar work closing the curtains. The two tracks in between move expertly between the two with some anger, defeat and frustration mixed in there as well as a bit of stoned out trippy rock with funk influences. The one thing I have never heard any other band do with such style and such a very own John Hancock. Carnaval, a band that is so much their very own creature and so much themselves it’s simply amazing. Can’t wait to rock out with Miss Universe!
