Ground – I

Ground – I
Self released – 2017
Sludge, Stoner Metal, Fuzz Doom
Rated: *****

Spanish duo – Ground – have a massive sounding debut album on their hands. A good test for any heavy album is how much it makes the side panel on my car vibrate. This made my car feel like it was shaking apart and slowly starting to self-destruct! For two guys who like making a noise, the influences are obvious – High On Fire, Sleep, Black Cobra, etc. But mixed with some punk and faster tracks. The wheel is not being invented here but sometimes there is a comfort in knowing exactly what you are going to hear when the needle hits the groove. And you know what . . . some days that is all I want or need. This is LOUD with attitude – no pissing around with light and shade or any need to strip things down, just a violent, sonic assault on your ears with an almost satanic glee. Special mention must be made to the crazed drums being battered. When the Zombie Apocalypse finally arrives . . . and it will, people, it will . . . This will be the soundtrack playing! And because they are good guys, this is a Name Your Price on Bandcamp. Stop reading this, get downloading now!
